Overview

The Advent Challenge ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your data when you use our service.

Data Collection and Access

We only access your Strava data after you explicitly grant us permission through Strava's OAuth authorization process. When you connect your Strava account, we collect:

  • Your Strava profile information (name, profile photo)
  • Your activity data (type, distance, duration, elevation, heart rate, location data)
  • Activity timestamps and metadata

How We Use Your Data

We use your Strava data for the following purposes:

  • Personal Dashboard: To display your own activities and progress in the challenge
  • Score Calculation: To calculate points based on your activities according to our scoring formula
  • Leaderboard: Your calculated scores and participation status are shown to other challenge participants in a public leaderboard
  • Daily Tracker: Your daily activity completion status (represented by icons) is visible to other participants
  • Appeals Process: If you appeal a "no count" activity, challenge administrators can view that specific activity's details to review your appeal

Data Visibility

  • Your View: You can see all of your own Strava activities and detailed statistics
  • Other Participants: Other participants can see your name, total score, activity type breakdown, and daily participation icons in the tracker
  • Administrators: Challenge administrators can view activity details only when you submit an appeal for review

Data Storage and Security

We store your Strava data securely on our servers to provide the challenge functionality. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

Data Sharing

We do not:

  • Sell your data to third parties
  • Share your data with third parties for marketing purposes
  • Use your Strava data to train AI models or machine learning systems
  • Share your detailed activity data with other participants (only aggregated scores and status)

You have the right to:

  • Revoke Access: You can revoke our access to your Strava data at any time through your Strava account settings
